Final of the E-Voting Competition 2008: Geek Team wins!

The first competition in the field of E-Voting in Europe is finished. Eight systems were submitted, three made in into the final round, which was held during the third International Conference on Electronic Voting in Bregenz, Austria.

And the winner is: The Greek team "PNYKA" which consisted of Iwannis Stamatiou, Christos Manolopoulos, Dimitris Sofotassios, Giorgos Avramidis, Antonis Tatakis, Polyxeni Nakou and Paul Spyrakis of the Universiy of Partas, of the Department for „Research Academic Computer Technology“. The prize money for the winners is 3.000€!

The system convinced the jury as it fulfilled the security requirements and also due to it's usability. It was developed during a research project by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Greek Ministry for Development. It will be publicly available to hold legally non-binding elections for associations and for further development by the internet community. It was created to bring the internet one step forward and it can be used freely by everyone.

The other two systems of Mr. Daniel Ratzinger from Innsbruck, Austria and Mr. Gerold Grünauer from Weiden, Germany, have been awarded with a complimentary prize. The prize was 1.000€ for each of the young programmers.

The E-Voting Competition was organized by the Competence Centre for Electronic Voting and Participation (E-Voting.CC) with the kind support of the Internet Private Association Austria (IPA). The venue for this first edition was Castle Hofen in Bregenz. Castle Hofen is the head quarter of the Centre for Science and Further Education.
